Since last week was Mother's Day, I decided to make some beautiful bouquets for all the moms in my ABF Class. I made vanilla cake pops coated with Wilton candy melts. I wanted to make my own flowers for the pops so I used some gumpaste. This was my first time and it was a teensy bit messy :)
They took quite a while but they were totally worth it. They came out super cute. I ended up having to make more the next day because I made more cake pops than I had flowers. The flowers weren't super realistic, but I wasn't going for realistic so they were definitely a success. Then came coating the cake pops. As they got warmer they started falling apart a bit so I had to be a little more careful while coating them, but I still wound up with quite a few.
I ended up making 7 each of Pink, White and Yellow colored pops. After they were dried, I started with the tulle and ribbon. That was tedious. But they came out super cute and made a wonderful Mother's Day display.
Not only did they look pretty, but they tasted wonderful. They were a pretty big hit. I also made some Raspberry Pound cake to make petit fours. I layered them with seedless Raspberry jelly and coated them with Wilton Candy Melts. I tried to coat them with a glaze recipe I found on Martha Stewarts website, but it was extremely difficult to work with and didn't coat the cake very well. The Wilton candy melts worked like a charm.
I decorated them with more Wilton candy melts because I didn't have enough powdered sugar (wasted it all on the useless petit four glaze) to make royal icing, but they came out pretty none-the-less. They tasted amazing and were by far my favorite.
And since I had a few cake pops left over which wouldn't fit into the flowerpots, I made some cake pop truffles.
I coated the cake balls in chocolate and drizzled them with white chocolate. Also a big hit. Last but not least the display table. I was planning on making dessert cards for each item, but never managed to get around to it.
All in all, I say success! :) Everything tasted and looked great and sugar coma's ensued.
